Highland Homecoming Haggis High Tea
Wow, what a day! Our first Haggis High Tea has been a resounding success, and an unforgettable day. Most of the committee (and some sherpas) set off to climb Ben Nevis around 07:45 on the Saturday (one of our party had stayed at the summit overnight looking after lots of things that had been taken up the previous day). During the ascent we had light rain and it was quite misty. But once we were at the top the weather showed signs of improving, and by around 2PM the cloud had lifted and we were lucky enough to have 360° views. We even sunshine! We had a few issues with the stoves blocking, so we were a bit late serving dinner to a few people, but hopefully that didn't detract from the enjoyment. In all we served over 60 people haggis, neeps and tatties, a dram of whisky, then a hot cup of tea with cakes and biscuits. And from your feedback, we know that you enjoyed it. A big thank-you is due to lots of people - the "official" sherpas, the people who kindly volunteered to carry things up or down on the day, the people taking part, and of course the people who have sponsored you. We're also extremely grateful to the organisations who sponsored some of our food and drink - Simon Howie for the haggis, the Ben Nevis Distillery, and Tunnock's. Some of you took photographs on the day, and we've included a few of them below. We've also made it into a couple of newspapers, and the Press and Journal has an online article.
