Mountain Aid is a trail blazer in providing FREE safety and skills training to outdoor enthusiasts in Scotland. Our ethos has always been - free, nothing, not a penny. We believe that your enhanced knowledge to keep you safe on the hill should not be dictated by financial circumstances. Although free to attend these courses are always delivered by fully qualified and insured professionals. This is possible due to the generosity of our fundraisers and our course providers in offering us good deals.
Outdoor First Aid
In 2017 and 2018 Mountain Aid teamed up with Venture Medical to offer a basic outdoor First Aid Training Course.
The course covered the essential "lay person" skills of keeping a casualty alive on the hill, namely : First Aid Kit and what to carry; Introduction to the three Hippos - Hypovolemic Shock, Hypothermia, Hypoglycemia; Fracture basics; Staying safe, Getting found; and Assisting rescue services. The course provides a safe environment for developing these skills, as coming across a casualty on the Cairngorm Plateau in mist, or “white out”, is not the place to start learning. Please note this is a outdoor First Aid course designed to cover the basics. It is an ideal spring-board to start learning outdoor First Aid, or refresh your memory. It is NOT a course you can use as a First Aid qualification.
