About Mountain Aid: the hillwalkers' charity
Mountain Aid: the hillwalkers’ charity was born out of a desire to continue the good work started by its predecessor ‘Boots Across Scotland’. In 2021 Mountain Aid took the next step and became a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO).

Picking up the work started by Boots, Mountain Aid,
- Seeks to reduce mountain rescue call outs by promoting mountain safety awareness.
- Provides financial support to mountain rescue teams.
- Supplies equipment and / or services to persons injured due to a climbing / hillwalking accident.
- Supports other charitable causes which the committee deems suitable.
Mountain Aid activities include:
- An annual programme of free “experiential” navigation, winter skills and outdoor first aid training courses.
- A series of free winter mountain safety lectures at venues across the country.
- A presence at the annual Dundee Mountain Film Festival to meet the public and promote the organisation.
- Organising Skills for the Hills and Scottish Mountain Safety Days. These exhibition style events offer hill-goers a chance to meet and talk to agencies involved in the great outdoors in Scotland. Our most recent event at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall featured Cameron McNeish (our patron) as the keynote speaker.
- Fundraising events such as our Ben Nevis High Tea, a rubbish pick for the Caledonian Challenge and our 2019 Corbetts for Courses initiative.
